Several league insiders who spoke with ESPN’s Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps believe 2026 could mark a turning point in the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee.

According to Bontemps, many in the league see that year as a moment when the situation could finally reach a decisive stage.

One Western Conference executive suggested that the longstanding tension within the Bucks could soon reach a breaking point, saying, “The rubber will finally hit the road one way or another.”

Yet there is a growing belief that a major development will only take place in the low season. An Eastern Conference scout noted that Antetokounmpo would have “maximum leverage” if he waited until the summer to push for a potential move.

Several executives were also skeptical that Milwaukee would consider moving him during the season.

As one Western Conference scout put it, “They’re not trading him in-season.”

That sentiment reflects broader expectations within the league that the upcoming trade deadline could be quieter than many expect.

In fact, several front office voices believe that major decisions involving players like Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, Zach LaVine and Trae Young may not come to fruition until June or July – or possibly even later.

An Eastern Conference executive hinted that a slow deadline could set the stage for a much more chaotic offseason, describing the possibility of a “crazy summer” if teams held their cards through February.

Another Western Conference executive echoed that cautious view, suggesting many players will remain with their current teams until the deadline.

“All these guys are going to be stuck where they are,” he said. “I don’t think it will be as busy as people think, and I don’t think the players available will be as good.”
