West Brom manager Eric Ramsay hopes to have George Campbell and Krystian Bielik back soon after losing Chris Mepham to injury against Stoke City.
Chris Mepham was forced off from West Brom’s match against Stoke City on Saturday, which ended 0-0, with what appeared to be a muscle injury he suffered towards the end of the game.
Baggies manager Eric Ramsay couldn’t give too many details about the injury, but did say he hopes to have George Campbell and Krystian Bielik back in the squad soon, having also welcomed several names against Stoke City.
Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba, Daryl Dike and Jed Wallace all started against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon and Ramsay is happy to have some minutes in his legs, especially with Dike returning early from another long-term injury.
Eric Ramsay comments on West Brom’s injuries after Stoke City
Speaking to the club after the match, Ramsay was asked about Mepham’s injury and said: “It’s an unfortunate outcome from the number of games so far this year… we’ve had some really tough injuries to a number of players who are really contributing to it.
“I think the nice thing today was that we got good minutes from Jed, Daryl and Jamal, the three of whom haven’t played that much football yet.”
Championship news
Ramsay went on to say that Campbell and Bielik could return to action soon, adding: “So that’s a step forward, but the loss of Chris is a step back, and we hope we can encourage the return of George and Christian and see where that leaves the squad.”
West Brom’s next five games
A draw with Stoke City on Saturday means WBA are still winless under Ramsay. The Baggies are also winless in their last seven Championship games but have drawn two of their last three, also keeping their first clean sheet in two months against the Potters.
Losing Mepham is certainly a blow for the Baggies. But as Ramsay says, the minutes for Jimoh-Aloba, Wallace and Dike are positive, especially ahead of what is a difficult period of fixtures on the horizon.
WBA then go to Birmingham City, before a trip to Norwich City in the FA Cup, a home game against league leaders Coventry City in the Championship, the more favorable games against Charlton Athletic at home and Oxford United away.
Those games against Charlton and Oxford in particular feel like a must-win for Ramsay. Likewise, good performances against rivals Birmingham City and Coventry would do a lot to instill some confidence in the players and the fans.
West Brom’s match against Birmingham City starts at 8pm on Tuesday and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
