Wolves have passed a nightmare start of the Premier League season with the club that is rooted on the bottom of the table.
The team of Vitor Pereira has lost all five league matches in 2025/26 and only becomes the sixth team that opens a Premier League season with five consecutive defeats.
In the midst of their disastrous form, we looked at the previous five teams to go without a win in this phase of a season – and where they completed the campaign.

Southampton – 1998/99
Southampton struggled poorly during the opening weeks of the 1998/99 campaign, with the season opened with five consecutive losses and a Windless Run with nine games.
The saints did not register their first victory until October 24, when Matt Le Tissier and Egil Østenstad won a 2-1 victory over Coventry City.
Southampton improved somewhat after that victory, but required an increase in the late season to survive. The side of Dave Jones won their last three games to end the 17th campaign, five points from the neighborhood of the drop zone.

Sunderland – 2005/06
Sunderland started a scorching season 2005/06 with five defeats on the leap, but took a first victory after beating Middlesbrough on 25 September. However, that victory was one of only three managed throughout the season, because Sunderland Rock-Bottom of the Premier League ended with a meager 15 points.

Portsmouth – 2009/10
Portsmouth ended the bottom of the Premier League in 2009/10, a campaign in which the club entered the administration. Pompeius was at the bottom of the table from the second competition day, after they had lost their opening Seven Premier League matches.
In March they were moored nine points for entering the administration, leaving the survival shops in action.

Crystal Palace – 2017/18
An example that should offer encouragement to wolves. Crystal Palace recovered from a bad start in 2017/18 to end the 11th season in the table. The Eagles looted Frank de Boer as a manager in September after the Dutchman lost his first four Premier League matches without scoring.

Roy Hodgon replaced De Boer and lost his first three games, but recovered to help the South Londers climb the table. Palace ended incredibly 11 points away from the relegation places, despite the fact that they had not recorded a point or goal in their first seven games.

Norwich City – 2021/22
Norwich’s yo-yo existence was on the way down in 2021/22, because the canaries were banned from the Premier League. Norwich saw their opening six losses and a first victory only arrived on November 6. Norwich spent one after all matchweek in the relegation sites of the Premier League.
