A bad year ends in tragedy with Mahomes suffering a left ACL, LCL and likely PLC (posterolateral corner) injury that will require season-ending surgery. The good news is that he had surgery the next day after his injury, giving him almost nine months to prepare for week one of the 2026 season. Many people have asked me: why did he have surgery so quickly? It is very common for immediate surgery when the LCL is involved to restore knee stability as quickly as possible. They are not as concerned about swelling when the LCL is involved, which is the opposite of when the MCL is involved because it has a greater blood supply and swells more. Another positive is that he only needed one surgery to address everything that needed to be repaired. Mahomes has a very strong rehab team around him, which I believe will allow him to return in an eight to 10 month time frame. Mahomes is likely looking forward to returning from August through the end of September, but I’d be willing to bet on his ability to be active in the first week. Buy low in dynasty.
