Felix Auger-Aliassime reveals his risky decision: putting the body first paid off

Felix Auger-Aliassime ended the 2025 season having crossed a long-awaited threshold and earned top-5 year-end honors.

The Canadian embraced a new approach that placed long-term health over short-term safety.

Felix achieved 50 ATP victories this season and won three ATP titles. His year-end ranking position is a reward for consistency and growth. However, the 25-year-old puts his well-being above all else.

Auger-Aliassime established himself as one of the most reliable performers on the circuit. Although Felix performed poorly at the first three Majors and embraced ups and downs, he ended the year on a high note and got a boost from the US Open semi-final.

While praising his improvements in the final months of the season, the Canadian admitted his biggest step forward came in the way he handled his body and schedule.

The 25-year-old acknowledged tangible improvements in several areas of his game. He also recognized that progress means little without physical sustainability.

He had to test that mentality in the final weeks of the season. Entering the US Open as world number one On August 27, Auger-Aliassime earned a chance to compete in Turin after deep runs in New York and during the indoor swing.

The Canadian reached the final of the Paris Masters and cracked the top 8, almost securing the last ticket for Turin. However, instead of hitting in Metz the following week, he decided to withdraw and rest his body.

The potential risk? Losing the ATP Finals spot to Lorenzo Musetti, who was chasing the crown in Athens. Ultimately, the Italian fell to Novak Djokovic in the final, after which Felix returned to the ATP Finals after three years.

Instead of chasing points and pushing his body to its limits in the closing days of the season, Auger-Aliassime prioritized injury prevention and painted a long-term picture.

The gamble paid off, although Djokovic still withdrew from Turin. Felix entered the ATP Finals competitive and confident. Despite some knee problems, he defeated two rivals and booked his place in the semi-finals.

His run ended against Carlos Alcaraz, but those two wins were enough to push him into the top-5 at the end of the year. The Canadian proved that listening to his body can be just as powerful as chasing victories.

“I think I am a better player, with several aspects of my game improving. I have realized that my priority is health, and that this necessarily leads to me making different choices in my schedule.

When I didn’t go to Metz to secure my place at the ATP Finals, I jeopardized my chances of going to Turin. However, it was necessary to avoid the risk of injury. Now I want to make choices that respect my physical well-being,” said Felix Auger-Aliassime.
