President Donald Trump of the United States has criticized the intention of Canada to acknowledge a Palestinian state, and said it would make it difficult for a trade agreement between the US and Canada.
“Wow! Canada has just announced that it supports the state for Palestine,” Trump later wrote in a post on his social social platform on Thursday.
“That will make it very difficult for us to conclude a trade agreement with them. Oh Canada !!!”
Carney said on Wednesday tariff negotiations with the government of Trump have been constructive, but the conversations cannot be concluded by the deadline.
Canada is the second largest American trading partner after Mexico and the largest buyer of American exports.
Last year it bought more than US $ 349 billion ($ 540 billion) in American goods and exported US $ 412 billion ($ 673 billion) to the US, according to data from the US Census Bureau.

Canada is also the best supplier of steel and aluminum for the United States and is confronted with rates on both metals and for exporting vehicles.

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer said meanwhile The UK would acknowledge the state at the general meeting of the UN Unless Israel has “taken substantive steps to end the terrible situation in Gaza”.

The announcements of some of the best allies of Israel reflect the growing international indignation about the limitations of Israel on food and other help to Gaza, and the terrible humanitarian crisis there.
Israel has bombed Gaza since an attack in October 2023 in South Israel under the leadership of Hamas militants, in which around 1200 people were killed and another 251 as hostages to Gaza, according to Israelische Talies.
Since then, the offensive of Israel in the Gaza Strip has killed and destroyed more than 60,000 people on a large part of the territory, according to Gaza Health Ministry.

In his announcement, Carney said that Canada convicted: “The fact that the Israeli government has allowed a catastrophe to unfold in Gaza”.

He said that his decision was informed by Canada’s “long -term” belief in a two -state solution, and that the reality on the spot, including the hunger of people in Gaza, meant that the goal “was eroded before our eyes”.

Carney said that the planned recognition was partly based on repeated guarantees of the Palestinian authority, which represents the Palestinian state at the UN, that it reformed his administration and willing to keep general elections in 2026 in which Hamas “cannot play part”.

Since 2012, the Palestinian state has been a non-member state of the UN general meeting, recognized by more than three-quarters of the 193 Member States of the meeting.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected Carney’s statement and said in a statement that the decision would harm the efforts to reach a ceasefiring -the fire in Gaza.
