Local polls in Kerala: CPI(M) announces new line-up for panchayat polls in Kannur district

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [(CPI)(M)] has announced its candidates for the upcoming district panchayat elections, a mix of experienced government workers and emerging youth leaders.

Party district secretary KK Ragesh announced the list of 16 candidates at a media briefing on Wednesday, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to grassroots representation and development governance.

Of the sixteen candidates, fifteen are newcomers, indicating a major generational change in the district’s political landscape. Binoy Kurien, incumbent vice-president of district panchayat, will contest again. The list also includes two current Panchayat Presidents.

Mr Ragesh said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would seek a new mandate based on the performance of both the state government and the district panchayat.

“The LDF’s track record of transparent and people-oriented governance will once again win the confidence of the electorate,” he said. He added that the LDF and its candidates were focused on continuous development rather than engaging in controversies. “We believe that the people will once again stand behind the LDF and recognize the progress made in all sectors,” Mr Ragesh said.

Party district president N. Chandran and state committee member TV Rajesh were present.
