Two -year -old Pacer Barber Shop (Culgrify) will chase the biggest victory in his short Harness racing career when he stands in line in the Fehlbergs produces 2YO Colts & Bondings Sweepstakes final (1609m) in Hobart on Saturday evening.
The Pacer, trained and driven by Heath Woods, took his record to two victories of four starts when claiming the second heat of the series on July 25.
Barber Shop, a money son from Lather Up, established one and two back before he raced three and four width over the last 600m to beat Race Favorite BT Captivate by a head in 1: 57.9s.
“He went well, I was really happy with him,” Woods said.
“He came forward quite early, and he had to bury to hold BT, and he also kept coming to him, so he did well to keep it away.
The Pacer has pulled the pole in the final of $ 30,000, where he is sitting on the second line of early gambling, behind BT Captivate as the favorite of the race.
“He starts pretty well. There are a few others who start well, it will be interesting to see what is happening. Even if he is crossed, there will probably be an option to get away if I have to get away, because a few get away quickly, it often keeps a gap in the field. But he starts to cross you.
“This will be his last run and then be a run-up and prepare him for the Dandy Patch (2yo Tasbred series),” Woods said.
The trainer, based in Broadmarsh, has two runners in the open class function of the night, the $ 20,000 Metropolitan Cup (2579m).
Stepping Stones has drawn barrier four, which will also ride, while the shallowly has drawn the second line with Brodie Davis booked.
Both horses disputed the graduate Darrell Rockliff during their most recent starts.
“She (stepping stones) did well the way they. We will probably have to move forward and see where she ends up.
“The shallowese are defeated by the sectionals (last start), and hopefully he can get a path this week,” said the trainer.
The Hobart card on Saturday evening offers the $ 80,000 Beautide.
Various providers of the bet have a fixed opportunity markets on the Beautide, both the Sweepstakes Finals and the Metropolitan Cup.
