Vladimir Putin has already scored a big win before the doors even open at his top with Donald Trump, warned former American national security adviser John Bolton, which “gave other Western leaders” their thumbs “while the world is watching. The top is planned to take place in Alaska on Friday in what promises to be a high-stakes, closely watching a meeting.
In many ways, the mere fact that it happened at all was a coup for Putin, Mr Bolton suggested. Referring to an angry post on truth social in which the billionaire branded him “dumb”, he told express.co.uk: “It is a win. Mr. Bolton painted a photo of a top that could tilt from the start in favor of Moscow.

“I am sure that Trump’s heart was heating. But then he said we had to talk about many things, including strategic weapon control between Russia and the United States.

The world view of the Lord Trump makes him vulnerable in such encounters, Mr Bolton argued.

The White House has framed the top as an opportunity to stabilize relations between the US and Russia, but Mr Bolton suggested that Putin was an enormously experienced operator in such situations and would at all times remain under control, which means that there was no chance of a splash when Volodymyr Zelensky visited the oval office.
He explained: “I think Putin has a very effective weapon and he will undoubtedly do it, and that is although he knows English, he never speaks in English with rare exceptions. He will speak his interpreter. With Trump you can never tell it, but Putin will keep his calm.”
Analysts have noted that Western leaders are increasingly offside, unable to influence the procedures or pre-epic developments, despite Sir Keir Starmer Hosting Volodymyr Zensky at number 10 on Thursday.
He said: “They shake their thumbs. I mean, this was a different victory for Putin.
“He only gets Trump personally and they must be satisfied with a zoom top.”
Mr Trump’s approach, according to Mr Bolton, is strongly influenced by his own personal stories.
He said: “Putin wants to try to use his KGB training to get Trump back in the mood that they are friends and cooperate and he is not a bad guy and it is Zensky who is the bad guy.”
Despite the risks, the administration is that the top is a chance of diplomacy.
Nevertheless, Mr Bolton’s warning suggests that even before the negotiations start, the top may be worldwide perceptions.
As world leaders look, the emphasis is on whether Trump can navigate through the subtleties of the Russian strategy, or whether the top will confirm a perception of Moscow’s dominance.
