On Tuesday, November 18, the Detroit Red Wings hosted the Seattle Kraken for the first game of the season for the two teams. It was a very competitive game, but the Red Wings were the stronger team of the two. won 4-2.
Summary of the game
At 5:50 PM the Red Wings took the first penalty of the game. With a minute left on the extra man advantage, the Kraken went to work. Eeli Tolvanen took two shots, but both missed their target. Matty Beniers picked up the rebound and passed it to Jordan Eberle. The puck immediately found his stick and Eberle put the Kraken on the board first.
Just a minute into the first period, Moritz Seider and Alex DeBrincat skated the puck into Detroit’s offensive zone. DeBrincat had the puck and passed it to Lucas Raymond. He tied the game with a shot.
45 seconds later, Axel Sandin-Pellikka took a shot that deflected off Mason Appleton’s stick and Nate Danielson’s shin guard. When Danielson earned the final touch, he scored his first NHL goal to give Detroit the lead.
Danielson scored again just three minutes later, but the goal was disallowed for offside. After much deliberation, it was swept off the table. The Red Wings now led by only one goal again.
Seven minutes into the second, Shane Wright had the puck tied up along the boards and passed it to Tolvanen. He sent it to Ryker Evans at the blue line, whose shot found the empty net.
Shortly afterwards, Jani Nyman sat down due to goalkeeper interference. The extra man advantage trapped Andrew Copp along the boards and passed the puck to Danielson. Even though he was in front of the net, he passed it to Emmitt Finnie, who put the Red Wings ahead again with his goal.
With 30 seconds left in the third and an empty net to boot, Dylan Larkin sent the puck into the gaping cage to secure the Red Wings’ victory.
