The quarter-finals of the Davis Cup Finals will end on Thursday with a draw, including between Germany and Argentina. Alexander Zverev and Francisco Cerundolo are leading the way for their respective countries.

Alexander Zverev (GER) vs. Francisco Cerundolo (ARG)

Zverev and Cerundolo will face each other for the fifth time in their careers when they compete in the Germany-Argentina match on Thursday in Bologna, Italy. Cerundolo holds a surprise 3-1 lead in the head-to-head series, but Zverev won their most recent meeting via retirement while leading 6-4 and 1-0 at this summer’s Toronto Masters. Both guys are in decent but unspectacular form at the moment, meaning Zverev should take care of business as the favorite on this surface. The third-ranked German has won 108 matches on indoor hard courts throughout his career; Cerundolo has won 21.

Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) vs. Tomas Martin Etcheverry (ARG)

The rubber with each team’s second singles player will likely be Struff vs. being Etcheverry. While one would think an indoor hard court would give Struff an advantage, that may not be the case. The long-serving German has amassed a losing record in five of the past seven seasons in this field. Etcheverry is a solid 16-11 indoors over the last three years. Struff is a man who can get excited when he’s confident, but that’s hardly the case at the moment given his lackluster current form. This is a good opportunity for Argentina.

Choice: Etcheverry in 3
