Dana White makes his debut as a UFC figurehead 25 years ago today

Dana White has been a fixture in the MMA world for some time now, with the prominent promoter marking a quarter century as the figurehead of the UFC. On February 23, 2001, White debuted as the new face of the brand, with the Fertitta brothers backing the promotion when UFC 30 took place. That was an event that emerged from the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

This was the very first UFC card to take place under the Zuffa banner, with that branding still existing to this day through Dana White’s boxing sidequest, Zuffa Boxing. Dana White was part of a historically significant kickoff that cemented the first-ever 155-pound champion in the organization’s history. Jens Pulver would earn this distinction when he defeated Caol Uno by unanimous decision in the co-main event of the evening.

The UFC 30 headliner would see Tito Ortiz, the promotion’s 205-pound kingpin, defend his title with a thirty-two second finish of eventual UFC Middleweight Champion Evan Tanner.

Dana White, Donald Trump and the UFC White House card

Dana White and Donald Trump have a long history related to this UFC30 era, and the titular figure of the Trump Taj Mahal will now host a special UFC card in a rather unique location.

The UFC White House card has been the talk of the MMA world for months and Donald Trump’s aforementioned UFC ties and his status as the sitting UFC president have meant that there will now be a Summer 2026 card at the White House.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s June 14 event simultaneously kicks off Flag Day and Donald Trump’s birthday, with no fights officially confirmed for the card, as of this writing.
