After Zuffa Boxing 3 wrapped, Dana White fired back at his rival boxing promoters, who have so far questioned White’s vision and also mocked the UFC chief executive for claiming he’s going to change “the entire sport of boxing.”
After another successful event since its launch, White says he expected more competition when he came into the boxing world, but feels like he is ‘beating up babies’.
“This is like beating up babies. I feel like I came in and beat up babies. I expected more. I expected some pushback. I expected some of them to be, I don’t know, more playful. They’re all way out of their league.”
Dana White recently announced that Jai Opetaia will headline Zuffa Boxing 4 against Brandon Glanton. For this fight, Ring Magazine’s cruiserweight title and the newly created Zuffa Boxing world cruiserweight title are on the line in addition to Opetaia’s IBF world cruiserweight title.
After hearing about Dana White’s plans, Eddie Hearn joked that, like White, he might consider introducing his own belts. He told iFL TV:
“That’s the nastiest shit I’ve ever seen. You know, I would never do that, but I was just laughing because I read about Jai Opetaia fighting Brandon Glanton for the Zuffa Championship of the world, and I thought, ‘You know what? I could just do that.’ That would be very funny. Why don’t we also do an iFL version?”
Dana White mocks Eddie Hearn and Oscar De La Hoya
During Zuffa Boxing 3’s post-fight presser, Dana White dismissed Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn’s recent criticism of Zuffa’s belt. White joked:
“I don’t want to sit here and bash Eddie Hearn or anything, but Eddie Hearn works for his dad. You know what I mean? He works for dad. I don’t think he’s come in and ever had any vision, whereas we do. We’re going to change the whole sport.”
White also wondered what Eddie Hearn and his father, Barry Hearn, have done as innovators in the sport.
“The sport has been around for over 100 years and there are plenty of guys involved in the sport. There’s plenty of money in the sport. Eddie Hearn and his father have a lot of money. It’s not that they can’t compete. They can’t compete because they don’t know how to compete. There’s no vision in it.”
Finally, White said this about Oscar De La Hoyawho has recently shown no love for the UFC CEO.
“They don’t stop talking. The WBC and Eddie Hearn and all that stuff that Oscar De La Hoya talks about. We all know it [De La Hoya is] f**king mentally ill. The man is talking about this nonsense, and his house is in foreclosure. He sues his fighter because he wants to stay with him. Has he done a Clapback Thursday recently? I would love to see an episode of Oscar De La Hoya’s Clapback Thursday next Thursday. Everyone feels it. It’s already happening. It’s going to be a fun year.”
