If I were chairman of some national hotel board, I would introduce En Svensk Hotellklassiker with immediate effect. Let me explain!
The Winter Olympics in Italy are in full swing, all of Sweden is covered in snow and soon it will be time for this year’s edition of brave Vasalopp skiers to take their positions. No wonder thoughts revolve around skiing and various races! First of all, we can figure out the concepts “A Swedish classic” without the hotel element (although many certainly bake in accommodation as part of the classic experience itself). To complete a traditional Swedish classic, you must complete four races over a twelve-month period. The races consist of:
Skis: Engelbrektsloppet 60 km, Vasaloppet/open track 90 km or The night vase 90
Misuse: Vätternrundan 315 km
Swimming: Vansbrosimningen/ Open River 3000 meters
Running: TCS Lidingö race 30 km
Personally, I have “only” completed a Girls Classic and have probably given up the ambition to implement the real thing in the name of fairness. However, I can imagine a complete hotel variant. More than satisfied actually!
To create a Swedish hotel classic
So I imagine something similar to A Swedish Classic in hotel form. There are obviously still many question marks that need to be clarified. For example, should there be a time limit of twelve months, or is it sufficient that you check into the hotel(s) included in En Svensk Hotellklassiker at some point in your life? I just need to take a few more turns and think. Of course, the most important question of all should be which hotels should actually be included in A Swedish Hotel Classic. Reasonably, there should be four. They must also be geographically distributed from north to south. I have three clear favorites, but I’m still unsure about the fourth. This is where I need help from you readers!
#1. Grand Hotel in Stockholm

There are several hotels with the title “Grand” in Sweden, but only one is as famous as the capital’s five-star diva. This hotel classic, located opposite the Royal Palace, recently celebrated its 150th anniversary and will certainly continue to exist for that long!

#2. The ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi
The ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi is not only the first in the world, but also the world’s first largest ice hotel. The construction of the ice hotel requires 30,000 tons (!) of snow and 4,000 tons of ice. In other words, this hotel fits perfectly as an alternative to skiing in the traditional Swedish classic.
#3. Hotel Eggers in Gothenburg

Finfina Hôtel Eggers is one of the oldest hotels in Sweden (active since 1859) and is also a hotel with heart and soul. I am very happy in this gem of a hotel right in the center of Gothenburg and think that the hotel deserves to be included in the hotel classic.

#4. ???
My fourth and final choice doesn’t feel as obvious as the other three, so I need your help with this. Which hotel in Sweden would you like to recommend En Svensk Hotellklassiker? And by the way, am I completely done with cycling (!) with the first three? I’d love to hear how you think and reason!
