Former Socceroo captain Craig Foster has added his voice to criticism of the UEFA administrative body after the death of the Palestinian player Suleiman Al-Obeid in Gaza.
In a post on Instagram on Monday morning, The former player and human rights activist accused UEFA From “eating in the best restaurants” while Palestinian football players are killed. He also called UEFA and FIFA, the global football body, to ban Israel at the international level.
“While Suleiman had to beg for food, almost a whole competition of Palestinian players are killed,” Foster wrote on social media.

“Sport plays an important role in withdrawing the legitimacy of each state that commit genocide and apartheid, and every player, former player and fan should speak out.”

After the death of Al-Obeid, UEFA placed a tribute on X and called him: “A talent that gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest time.”
This was replaced by Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who asked, “Can you tell us how he died, where and why?”
UEFA did not respond to the post.

The Israeli military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shosain answered Salah: “Hey Mohamed, after a first assessment we found no information about incidents with Suleiman Al-Obe. We need more details to look closer.”

Footballers killed in Gaza

According to the Palestinian football club, 662 athletes and their relatives have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023. There were 421 football players of them, and 103 of them were children.
More than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed at auxiliary distribution points of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation since 27 May, according to the United Nations.
