Darwin’s airport has adopted the non -enviable title of the most expensive capital of Capital City in the country, after operators have increased the landing costs by more than 110 percent.
The reimbursement increase by Darwin’s Airport Development Group (ADG), which came into force on 1 July, has already seen that Charter Companies Hardy Aviation and Fly Tiwi rose their passenger aircraft.
The MP established in Darwin and special envoy for Luke Gosling, in North Australia, said that the changes would make the landing prices of the NT “more than double the everywhere else in the country”.
“In my opinion it is an unacceptable increase,” he told ABC Radio Darwin.
Luke Gosling has referred the operator’s decision to increase the landing costs to the Australian competition and consumer committee. ((ABC News: Dane Hirst))
“This is an unreasonable coupon through the ADG … and I made that clear to them.“
Mr. Gosling said that the reimbursement of ADG had been referred to the watchdog of the nation, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
‘I will do what I can do with the ACCC [around] This balance of power between the Monopoly ADG, which runs the airport and determines the reimbursements and smaller operators, “he said.
The commercial airline Virgin has previously said that the ADG’s plan to increase high landing costs would “put pressure on the air rates and the airlines would not encourage the airlines to grow services to Darwin”.
Mr. Gosling said it was more than likely that the reimbursement increases would exert pressure on commercial passenger rates.
“Unfortunately, that is the reality that the airlines try to pass on some of those costs, which makes it even more difficult for us,” he said.
ADG blames the current landing job works
In a statement, the ADG blamed the current runway to increase their costs.
Darwin’s Commercial International Airport works under a “joint user deed” at the Australian Ministry of Defense, which has studied the landing job works of the airport.
The ADG says that current tracking have had a significant impact on the operating costs of the airport. ((Delivered: Darwin International Airport))
“The current adjustment is necessary, powered by the [runway works] that has hit considerably [the airport’s] Operating costs, “said it in a statement.
“This is exacerbated by a decrease in aviation activity and wider increases in the construction costs that are powered by inflation.
“ADG recognizes the impact that this adjustment can have on the [general aviation] Community and is actively working on both Northern Territory and the Australian governments to explore mechanisms to support the sector. “
The ADG said earlier that the landing job works were also responsible for a recession in flights, after negotiations to get more Airasia flights to the northern territory, fell over.
Since that period, the airport has succeeded in attracting more flights from Airasia to Malaysia, but flights between Darwin and other cities in Australia remain scarce and duration.

Currently there are no daily flights during the day between Darwin and Melbourne, and flights to many other capital cities cost high rates and fly mainly in the middle of the night.
The ADG said the fees were in accordance with the principles of ACCC and Productivity Commission.
The ACCC is contacted for comment.
