Two groundbreaking Corvette concept cars – the Corvette CX and the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo – have made their debut at the Quail, a motorsport meeting and offers a glimpse into the future of the most celebrated performance brand of America. Although neither is intended for production, both are ready to inspire Corvette Design Language for the coming years, which combines more than 70 years of heritage with daring, progressive innovation.
The Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo mark the last chapter in a series of design studies from Chevrolet this year, the result of a global GM design initiative. Developed in the Chevrolet Performance Studio in Warren, Michigan, these concepts embody the creative freedom of a design exercise without limits.
“Although the form of a Corvette has always been expressive and future -oriented, every fold and line has its roots in the generations that came for it,” said Phil Zak, director of executive design for Chevrolet. “The CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo demonstrate our design teams that leave the limitations of production vehicles and unleash their creativity. Through this exercise we have added to Corvette and defined the design of Corvette for Corvette.”
Corvette CX concept: a fully electric, 2,000 hp vision

The Corvette CX concept has again presented the sports car for both street and job. Signature Corvette Design Cues-De Voorwarde Neus, Horizontal Chine line and Dual element Taalslichtsgehen combined with futuristic proportions, a canopy of jet hunters and active aerodynamics formed with input from the GM Motorsports Aero Group.
Under the sculpted body, a revolutionary vacuum fan system and adjustable AERO elements enormous downforce provide. Four electric motors, one on each wheel, produce more than 2,000 hp with torque vectoring, while a 90 kWh battery ensures an optimal weight distribution. The interior combines luxury and performance, with inferno red ballistic textiles, forged carbon fiber and a digital windshield screen.
Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo: Racing without a compromise

The CX.R VGT takes the CX platform and takes it for total racing performance. The well-known Corvette GT Geel-and-Zwarte Livrei wraps a lighter, lower chassis with extreme active Aero. Inside, carbon fiber replaces luxury finishing and seats of racing quality offers maximum support from the driver.
Power comes from a middle-mounted, Twin-Turbo V8 that produces up to 900 hp at 15,000 rpm, which runs on renewable e-fuel. Three electric motors increase the total output to 2,000 hp.
Both concepts can soon be powered in Gran Turismo 7, so that enthusiasts worldwide can virtually experience the most convenient Corvette vision. With the track-record-breaking ZR1X that now redesign the production performance, and the CX concepts that indicate an electrified, aero-obsessed future, Chevrolet proves that the next Corvette chapter will be just as greasy as its legendary past.
