Western Australian veteran Comfort Me has retired after competing in Saturday’s Gold Rush

Popular Western Australian galloper Comfort Me retired from racing at the age of 16 ninebringing to an end a long and successful career at the highest level of local racing.

Comfort Me, trained by Rhys Radford, retires with a record 53 starts for eight wins, nine seconds and seven thirds, earning $1,764,950 in prize money. His most notable performances came in Western Australia’s premier race, the Group 1 Railway Stakes, where he finished second three times – in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

The gelding performed consistently in the company over several seasons, regularly competing against elite opposition and maintaining strong levels of form throughout his career. His ability to return to the same major races year after year highlighted both his solidity and competitiveness at the metropolitan level.

Radford said Comfort Me has been an important horse for the stable from the beginning.

“He was everything to us. Not just a gentleman, but a complete professional from his yearling days. He will leave a huge hole in the stable, but we are so blessed to have a horse like him,” Radford said.
