Jess Davidson joins the Wai Eyre Farm team

Wai Eyre Farm is delighted to announce that Jess Davidson, former Trackside presenter and HRNZ marketing team member, will be joining the team.

Jess will take up a new role at Wai Eyre Farm in early December, where she will oversee the marketing and sales of stallion services.

The role supports the vision that Wai Eyre has implemented and focuses on customer relationships, communications and the promotion of the services we offer. This is done in addition to promoting our stallion rankings and the initiatives we offer breeders.

Darryl Brown says: “This season we have been driven by our vision to take the farm to new heights. This has included the purchase of the stallions Lazarus and US Captain and our partnership with Pat Driscoll and the Yabby Dam Farms stallions, re-exporting to Australia and better communication with customers – all supported by the desire to see an increase in the number of foals bred in an effort to play a vital role in the future and sustainability of the Harness Racing Industry. I believe that having Jess, with her vast knowledge of the sector, joining the farm will help us reach the next level we are aiming for.”

“We have seen a big increase in the number of foals and breeding numbers this season thanks to our goal of keeping breeding affordable, and we are very excited to see what we can achieve next season as Jess helps make our vision a reality,” concludes Darryl.

Jess has worked in mainstream media for the past five years, as a producer for Newstalk ZB and also as a presenter and rural correspondent for The Country. But her passion for racing has never faded.

“I am very happy and excited to return to an industry that I have been passionate about all my life,” said Jess.

“I was impressed by the forward thinking and initiatives that Darryl and the team have implemented this season. Our breeding figures are crucial to ensuring that the harness racing industry not only survives, but thrives. And WaiEyre has really stepped up this year to help breeders keep going. This is not the time for the industry to sit back and wait to see what happens.”

“I am very excited to be part of a team that is committed to making a difference.”

Jess was a presenter for Trackside for ten years, presenting at race meetings in New Zealand and presenting The Box Seat and her own Harness Show on Radio Trackside.

“I still remember seeing Lazarus win his two cups, and the atmosphere around the track as he swept away his opposition. And I was fortunate enough to have HRNZ complete his journey to victory in the United States, regularly speaking to trainer Jimmy Takter about Laz’s progress. So it’s quite special to now be working with Wai Eyre to promote him.”

“He is respected in North American circles and his descendants are flying there. It’s great to see his stats shooting in limited numbers here so far, promising so much with the likes of The Lazarus Effect and his achievements to date.”

Jess was also employed by The Meadowlands in the US in 2011 and 2012 to cover their Hambletonian and Meadowlands Pace coverage and the North American running scene is close to her heart.

“I have made some great contacts and friends in the breeding and racing industries in the United States and Canada, which has provided me with some great opportunities to connect and promote breeding here.”

“During my time there I was fortunate enough to see Captaintreacherous and American Jewel race and meet their connections, which makes promoting a stallion as US Captain very exciting for me. A pedigree like his and the value he brings to breeders is not something you come across every day.”

“I’m also really excited about the reports about On A Streak. He was a great youth performer in the Northern Hemisphere and took on and defeated some talented opponents. His pedigree is also excellent, and the trainers are already loving his offspring and their attitude in New Zealand.”

In addition to promoting Wai Eyre stallions, Jess will provide regular updates on key information on farm updates, stallion performances and interviews with industry participants in New Zealand and around the world to monitor progress.

Despite being active in mainstream media, Jess has also remained involved in the industry in recent years. She bred and raced the six-victory mare, Big Mama Morris, and encouraged new owners to get into the industry through syndication for Lethaby Racing Stables.

She now breeds from Big Mama Morris, who recently had a foal at Wai Eyre Farm.

“As a breeder, I have been hugely impressed with the staff on the farm. The communication and care of the mares and foals is brilliant. I was even lucky enough to witness Big Mama Morris’ stalling and feeding of the fillies for the first time so I could see the overnight foal watch team in action. The staff are experienced and passionate about what they do at every level.”

“Everyone on the farm has the same vision and is driven every day to provide the best care and attention to detail. That made my decision to join the team a no-brainer.”

“It’s an environment I can’t wait to work in and be part of moving forward. I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”
