In February Colby Dicknesse received the call that every hunter dreams of. The UFC stopped a pay-per-view in Sydney and they needed an Australian to fill in in the short term. Although it was immediately an exciting chance, he was not exactly in the best conditions to fight.

“I did security work, it was just a static shift. So I was just in my car, they clearly had to patrol on the school site because they had burglaries and that,” explained Dicknese. “Then I am, you know what, I have not booked flights or something, I will treat myself. I will eat Uber for lunch, eat Uber for dinner and I don’t do much.”

So, of course, as soon as the call came in, he got to work immediately. With about a week to prepare, he had to cook everything on the essence.

“It was like nine o’clock that I received a message [my manager] and Alexandre’s manager and then at 10.30 Trying to remove part of this excess weight, “he said.I always stay relatively well fit and things like that and I was just a kind to keep, try to get a little bit of a game plan, to stay injury free because of the short cancellation period, do not go 100% in a week and cook myself or get used or get injured or something. So it was more about only getting a game plan and tried to get some weight. “

After three rounds, the decision came on the other side. Although it was not the result he was looking for, it was a valuable experience. Now he gets the chance to do it all over again and at home in Perth. This time he had enough time to prepare himself in addition to his team – including UFC Vederweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski.

“We have had so much time and preparation, specifically for this look. So I think it is very cheap, because come as a fighting time, I don’t think something will surprise me,” Dicknesse said. “I think [having Volkanovski there] Just brings confidence. I have been in the gyms since I was 13. I am now 26. So not only confidence in my assets, but also the confidence to show that it can be done. “

With all that preparation under his belt, he is convinced that he can do the job against Josias Musasa on Saturday.

“He’s going to make a mistake. I’m going to capitalize,” he said. “I’m going to jump his back, grab his neck.”

You can catch that fight against Musasa as part of the UFC Perth prelims. The Vecht card starts at 7 p.m. Est and is broadcast on ESPN+.
