South African cricketer Ryan Rickelton took a stunning catch to get rid of Indian batsman Virat Kohli in the first ODI of the three-match series at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. Kohli entertained the crowd with a sensational batting display but failed to stay till the end of the Indian innings.
The right-handed batsman reached his first century at home since 2023. He walked early in the fourth over but immediately took control of the innings. Kohli switched gears from the start. He started attacking the bowlers in the powerplay, increasing India’s scoring percentage and putting pressure on the South African bowling attack.

Virat Kohli’s batting came to an end in the 43rd over. Kohli mistimed Nandre Burger’s slower ball as he tried to hit over the infield. The shot failed to reach the height and Ryan Rickelton ran back from cover, kept his eyes on the ball and completed an excellent catch over his shoulder before falling to the ground.
As Kohli walked out, the entire stadium stood up to applaud him. He acknowledged the crowd by raising his bat and received a warm ovation for an excellent knock. His dismissal finally offered some relief to South Africa after seeing him dominate at the crease for most of his stay.

Virat Kohli reaches 52nd ODI Hundred in Ranchi
Virat Kohli changed gears mid-innings as India suddenly lost Rohit Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Washington Sundar in quick succession. As the wickets fell around him, he held one end and finally brought up his century in the 38th by posting a boundary off Marco Jansen.
Kohli jumped into the air, roared and pumped his fist before kissing the medallion he always wears. The moment was briefly interrupted when a fan ran onto the field and fell at his feet, but once the intruder was removed, Kohli composed himself and looked skyward with folded hands.
By reaching the milestone, Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 51 Test hundreds and became the player with most centuries in a single international format.
