Suryakumar Yadav returns to domestic T20s at a crucial time
One of the biggest talking points is the return of Suryakumar Yadav to Mumbai’s domestic T20 lineup. Although he had a sensational IPL season earlier this year – amassing 717 runs at a strike rate of 167.91 – his form in international T20s has dipped drastically. Over 15 innings in 2025, the star hitter scored just 184 runs, an average of 15.33.
Mumbai’s decision to include him is seen as both a strategic and timely move. While India are scheduled to play a five-match T20I series against South Africa From December 9, the SMAT will provide Suryakumar with an ideal platform to regain fluency and hone his game ahead of a packed white ball calendar and the all-important T20 World Cup in 2026.
Crucially, Suryakumar will exclusively bat as a senior batsman, while the leadership responsibilities have been handed over to an all-rounder. Shardul Thakur.
Defending champions are aiming for a new strong series
Mumbai will enter the 2025-2026 edition as defending champions after impressively lifting the trophy last season. Their campaign this year begins on November 26 with all matches in the league scheduled at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The team has a strong mix of power hitters, seasoned campaigners and dynamic all-rounders. Shivam Dubeywho is in excellent ball-attacking form across all formats, adds significant firepower in the middle order. Ajinkya Rahane offers experience at the top, while Sarfaraz Khan And Siddhesh boy strengthen the hitting core.
Mumbai’s young brigade – inclusive Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Musheer KhanAnd Suryansh Barn — brings freshness and versatility. Their domestic growth in recent seasons provides Mumbai with the depth needed to handle the tournament’s demanding schedule.
