Encouraging early-season performances from Jordan Walsh and Neemias Queta have put both players on the Boston Celtics radar when it comes to potential long-term planning.
In a recent Mailbox column, Brian Robb suggested that Boston could eventually explore expansion talks if upward trends continue.
Walsh’s situation represents an earlier decision point. The Celtics hold a $2.4 million team option for next season, but Robb notes the organization could choose to pass on that option in favor of negotiating a longer contract.
Following this path would lock Walsh down for an extended period of time and eliminate the risk of him reaching unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2027 if his development continues.
Queta’s timeline is slightly different, as he won’t be eligible for an extension until next season. Still, Robb believes the possibility is very real if the big man maintains his current level.
Continued consistency and impact could make Queta another candidate for Boston to prioritize as it looks to land promising contributors before they hit the open market.
