Massimiliano Allegri has given AC Milan a “breath of oxygen”, says Matteo Gabbia, while the veteran manager wins the Italian giants new life.
After missing the European places with an eighth place in Serie A in 2024-25, Allegri was accused of rebuilding Milan, after he won the Scudetto in 2010-11 in his first Stint in the club.
Early signs are positive for the six times Serie A winner Allegri, where defender Matteo Gabbia describes his arrival as “a breath of oxygen to the team after a difficult year”.
That change of atmosphere has been praised by a number of players on the pre-season tour of Milan by Asia.
“Everything has changed compared to the past. I have the feeling that this year Milan will be a team,” said Portuguese winger Rafael Leao.
“We have important players who can make the difference, but above all there is a great team spirit.”

The positivity is reflected in their results for the season, with a 1-0 loss for Arsenal the only scourge on a Tour that has also seen a 4-2 victory over Premier League champions Liverpool and a 9-0 thrashing from the Australian outfit Perth Glory.
After last season’s disappointment, Milan tried to remove the house, with the big exit of Star midfielder Tijjani Reijners to Manchester City, as well as the departure of Theo Hernandez, Emerson Royal and Luka Jovic.
In their place, Milan looked at the youth, with midfielder Samual Ricci who participated in Torino for € 23 million and pervis Estupinan who joins the club at Brighton for a reported reimbursement of € 17 million (£ 14.7 million).
The exception to that is the arrival of the 40-year-old legendary Croatian midfielder Luka Modric on a free transfer by Real Madrid.
Modric is expected to give mentoring to the younger players in the team, as well as a proven record in winning, something he would like to continue with Milan.
“We remember Milan as one of the best teams in the world. We should not only be satisfied with a medium season or are eligible for the Champions League,” Modric said
“That is my vision of Milan, but we must also be modest, work hard to bring the team back to the highest level. I am very competitive and I want to bring this to the team.
“The minimum goal is to be eligible for the Champions League, but Milan also has to fight to win trophies. It is my goal and must be for everyone who works in Milan.”
Milan starts their Series A campaign on August 23 by welcoming Cremonese to the San Siro, and Allegri will be hopeful to build their early optimism in trophies.
