Bobby Poulter: Simon Marcus title fight is a “dream come true” at Unified MMA 66

The Unified MMA Welterweight Championship is up for grabs tomorrow and Bobby Poulter is looking to claim it against a former rival of Israel, Adesanya and Alex Pereira, as the title fight takes place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Each upcoming fight is inherently the biggest fight of each fighter’s career.

But when asked what this particular fight against decorated Glory Kickboxing fighter/undefeated MMA fighter Simon Marcus at Unified MMA 66 means to him, Bobby Poulter said [via MMA Canada],

“Yeah, I mean, it’s a milestone in my career, right? Like fighting a legend like Simon, I grew up watching him fight. I remember training for my first amateur fight ever. It was like an amateur Muay Thai fight and see him fight in a main event Glory [card] for the title. So this is a dream come true, right?”

“Other than going to the UFC, this is the best I can do for now. So I’m excited. I’m happy to get this opportunity and test him because he’s a world kickboxing champion. You know, we haven’t really seen him in MMA yet, other than his three fights where he’s obviously dominated. So I’m just excited to test him.”

Bobby Poulter: “This is probably the worst fight, honestly [Simon Marcus] based on my style”

Poulter represents the toughest test Marcus has faced to date in an MMA context, and when digging into what he brought to the table that Marcus’ previous opponents couldn’t do, and describing the kind of resistance ‘The One’ will meet on February 20, Bobby Poulter stated [via MMA Canada],

“I just think he’s had three fights and he’s had the three perfect fights for a guy trying to make the transition to MMA. But what I’m bringing to the table is someone who’s a full-time athlete and is now ready for the UFC. Like this is, you know, I’m not young in my career. I’ve been in this for 10 years. Like this is probably the worst fight for him honestly based on my style. … Having this fight against me was, you know, it’s ideal. It’s ideal for both of us because a victory for one of us takes us to the next level.”
