India will defend their T20 World Cup -Kroon in less than five months, and the BCCI has reportedly approached Mrs. Dhoni to return as the team’s mentor.

The former India captain previously recorded the role during the T20 World Cup 2021 in the VAE, when Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri were captain and head coach. However, India has passed a disappointing campaign, the knockouts did not reach and for the first time in the history of the World Cup lost to Pakistan.

According to Cricblogger, a senior BCCI source confirmed development.

“Dhoni is offered again to guide the Indian cricket,” said the source. The board believes that Dhoni’s sharp cricket brain, calm leadership and big-match experience can be invaluable in shaping India’s title defense.

However, the decision is not easy. Insiders suggest that Dhoni can be hesitant because of the presence of Gautam Gambhir as head coach. While the two steadfasts respect each other, differences in approaching their playing days can pop up again if they work together in the same setup.

Despite India’s early exit in 2021, several players had praised Dhoni for his valuable guidance during his short Stint. With the team of India that will probably contain several young people this time, his presence could offer the much needed balance and trust.

For now it is still to be seen whether Dhoni accepts the offer and bundles the forces with Gambhir for the defending defense of India.

In the meantime, India’s immediate focus is on the Asia Cup from 9 September in the VAE. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, the title defender will start their campaign against the hosts at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 10 September.
