The Atlanta Braves took on the Washington Nationals looking for securing a sweep of four games. Hurston Waldrrep took the hill in search of a rebound of a forgetful start against the Astros where he handed over eight points earned.
The Braves first came to hit and Profar and died, but Matt Olson explained hot and got the basis with a single on a throw that was above the battle zone. Unfortunately that was the only attack in the inning for the Braves.
Waldrep looked sharp in his first effect in the work. He looked like he had shaken the rust. After he had induced a groundout from wood, he was able to search both Abrams and Bell. He was able to swing Abrams by using a curve as a protrusion. Bell took out his splitter.
Brad Lord has made an effort since he became a full -time starter for the Nationals, but he seemed to have the song of the Braves in the game. He sat down in Albies and Harris via Strikeouts and Kim was out to RF on a solid contact ball.
Daylen Lile came in the second to hit. He was a player to keep an eye on. In the month of September he is the only qualified Slagman with a higher WRC+ than Matt Olson. Waldrep was not phased by him. He let him go, you guessed it, a splitter. Waldrep took another strikeout and caused a groundout in a route to sit in the inning.
It seemed that the Braves could get something in the third. Ozuna and Alvarez had back-to-back singles to start with, but the momentum was killed with a Profar Gidp and an Olson Long Pop Up to SS. Waldrep continued where he had left. He spent the first two batters who he encountered in the inning and caused another ground ball. In these two strikeouts he did seem to be a bit successful, namely to pitch a set of splitters and then to fool the batter with a curveball like the view.
The Braves looked again as if they would break through in the fourth inning. Ronald Acuña smoked a single that was 109.2 mph of the bat, stole second and then Albies followed that with a rare walk after a Baldwin -Pop -up. Kim moved the runners with a grounder, but Harris hit the momentum.
Waldrep finally showed some weakness in the fourth inning. He was able to land wood, but then Abrams hit a single and stable then second. Waldrep was able to keep his calmness and to poach both Bell and Lile. He hit both batters on three throws with a combination of cutters and splitters.
The Braves showed no insult in the fifth with Ozuna, Alvarez and Profar who was in order. The fifth inning of Waldrep was not as dominant as his others. Luis GarcĂa led away with a double and then scored on a single crew to make the score 0-1. Crews then stole second. Adams was out, but then Hassell had its own double and made the score 0-2. There was a hill visit to calm Waldrrep. He was able to force a soft grounder, but then Wood doubled to make the score 0-3. In the end, Waldrrep was able to stop the pendulum by having Abrams fly on a short flying ball for which Profar had to make a last second dive.
The Braves had many baserunners this game, but they could not place any of them so far. That ended in the sixth. After the second most popular batter in MLB, Matt Olson, Ronald Acuña fell out of a single on the first throw he saw that was well inside. Baldwin then added to his Roy CV by scoring Acuña from the first one on a two -hree. This ended the afternoon of Lord and he was replaced by Clayton Beeter. Albies was able to take his second walk of the game. Kim then walked to load the bases. It seemed that we might have more stranded runners when Harris finished, but Ozuna could get through with a single that the game 3-3 bond. Alvarez then came to work and hit a single to score a point, but Ozuna was thrown in third place. It was close enough that the Braves challenged it, but the piece was maintained and the top of the sixth was over.
Dylan Dodd then came in to replace Waldrrep. Waldrep was fantastic outside the inning. He ended his afternoon with eight strikeout and zero walks, while he died three points on five hits in 5.0 innings work. It was a much needed solid outing. Dodd was not the answer. He gave up a single to Bell, and then after a groundout, he gave up a single to GarcĂa to put runners on the corners. In a sensible movement, Dodd was subsequently replaced by Hunter Stratton, who got a force out of it and then hit Adams to prevent damage.
Lao then came into play for the nns. Profar ground, but in what has been a daily event, Matt Olson still hit an HR.
Lao was able to retire the rest of the side, but an insurance was added. Pierce Johnson then came in to pitch the seventh. He was able to retire the first two batters with whom he encountered, but then gave up a single to wood and was replaced by Lee. Lee then smashed Abrams.
The Braves did not delay in the eighth. The series of walks of Albies ended, but Kim followed it with a single. Harris continued his struggles with a grounder, but Kim was able to go to second place and then Marcell Ozuna hit him with a semifone to make the score 6-3. Alvarez turned out, but the lead was now three.
Lee remained in the game to pitch the eighth and withdrew the side. The Braves were apparently not done to have fun on the record in the ninth pleasure. Profar was retired in strikes, but Olson started a series of three straight singles to load the bases. Albies are a bag of fly to Plaat Olson, and then Kim hit a single to score two to make the score 9-3. Harris was finally able to break his slump and got a single, but Ozuna dropped out to move it to the bottom of the ninth.
Dane Dunning then came in to pitch the ninth. He did not bring exactly trust. Crews led away with a double and then thinning hit Adams with a throw. Hassell land on those runners on the corners. House then ticked a single to make the score 9-4. With runners on the first and second, Dunning was able to spread James Wood and eventually let Abrams land to end the game.
Besides one inning, Waldrrep looked fantastic with a great mix of fields. The attack not only exploded with the power of Matt Olson, but sixteen total hits. Each player came to Het Bonk next to Profar with Olson, Ozuna and Acuña with three hits a piece.
It is a pity that it is too late, because the Braves played their best overall series all season.
The Braves will have a day off tomorrow before they will be confronted with the Tigers.
