The National Shutdown will take place on January 30th as everyone against ICE prepares for the economic blackout.

A general strike against ICE is coming January 30is gaining momentum as organizers hope to expand the event.

The strike aims to have all participants skip work, school and shopping in protest of ICE raids taking place in many US cities, especially Minneapolis. The economic blackout hopes to show opposition to the activities of the immigration laws, some of which have led to the deaths of two protesters.

According to Business Insider, The general strike follows Minnesota’s own ICE OUT protest, which took place on January 23. As ICE agents’ enforcement activities continue to spread fear across American cities, with the latest death of ICU nurse Alex Pretti causing even more outrage, those opposed to the violence will now unite nationwide.

The movement has even attracted celebrity attention, with some star-studded supporters promoting the protest on their social media accounts. “The Last Of Us” star Pedro Pascal and “Hacks” actress Hannah Einbender shared the flyer as anti-ICE advocates continue to spread the message.

The official website for the national shutdown also listed several supporters of the cause, including several unions, student groups and social justice organizations working to end ICE’s rule in America.

“The people of the Twin Cities have led the way for the entire country – to stop ICE’s reign of terror, we must SHUT IT DOWN,” the site said. “On Friday, January 30, participate in a national day without school, no work and no shopping.”

The website also claimed that the president’s “racist agenda” will continue to fuel communal violence. The protest is thus intended to demonstrate a tough stance against this initiative, which claims to endanger people’s lives regardless of their legal status.

“Every day, ICE, Border Patrol, and other enforcers of Trump’s racist agenda enter our communities to kidnap our neighbors and sow fear. It’s time for us all to stand up together in a nationwide shutdown and say enough is enough,” the report continued.

The inspired protest in Minnesota saw several businesses closed in support of the blackout, using the dip in the US economy to prove their dissatisfaction with the Trump administration’s ICE rollout. For those who want to participate: the National shutdown has a list of actions in different cities to ensure that everyone can participate.
