It’s Wordle Wednesday, which means you fine Wordlers have an extra riddle to solve before we get to the official Wordle. Plus, as a bonus, you’ll have a custom Wordle to solve since I’ve been doing that lately (hope you enjoy it!)

Today’s riddle:

What comes before God, is more evil than the Devil, and if you eat it, you will die?

I will post the answer tomorrow. Message me when you have the answer.

How to Solve Today’s Wordle

How to play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or less. After each guess, the game provides feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

  • Vegetable: The letter is in the word and in the right place.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong place.
  • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to refine your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot, or even me, your humble narrator. See the rules for Competitive Wordle at the end of this post.

Today’s Wordle Tips and Answer

  • Wordle Bot’s starting word: SLATE
  • My starting word today: CREAM (18 words left)
  • The tip: Not a nice and spacious place to live.
  • The clue: This Wordle starts and ends with consonants.

Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot here.

SNOWY wasn’t a very good opening bet. With a yellow “O” and 297 words left, I kept them alive with FLAKE. Again, not the best guess, but I had fun. This left me with 20 words, and HOTEL seemed like a good bet. For a moment I thought it was a very good guess as the H and O turned green. Unfortunately I didn’t stay in a HOTEL at all, but in a small, miserable HOVEL. That’s life!

Competitive Wordle Score

The Wordle Bot and I each get 0 points for guessing four and for a tie. I need a 2XP win on Friday (or at least no loss on Friday) if I have any hope of winning in November.

Erik: 11 points

Word Bot: 15 points

How to Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. In case of a draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.
  • Friday is 2XP, which means you double your points: positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!

The current Wordle definition and etymology

Hovel comes from the Middle English hovel, meaning ‘shed’ or ‘shelter’, which probably started as a diminutive of court – an Old English word meaning ‘house’, ‘dwelling’ or ‘farm’.

So originally it meant a small hut or shed, and only later came to mean a miserable or dirty dwelling.
