Afghanistan team for T20 Tri-Series against Pakistan, De Vae announced; 16 Asia Cup players selected

On Wednesday, August 27, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the team of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team for the upcoming T20i Tri series in the VAE.

The National Cricket Team of Afghanistan is ready to lock Hoorns with the Pakistan National Cricket Team and the National Cricket team of the VAE in a T20I Tri series for the Asia Cup 2025.

Asia Cup is played in the VAE from 9 to 28 September, and for that the Afghans are prepared when they lock horns with the VAE and Pakistan in T20i matches.

The Tri series start on August 29 with the match between Afghanistan and Pakistan. [Afghanistan vs UAE, Afghanistan vs Pakistan, Pakistan vs UAE, and Afghanistan vs UAE]. All matches of the series are played in Sharjah, including the final on September 7.

In the meantime, the ACB selection committee has mentioned almost identical squadrons for the Tri series and Asia Cup 2025, with only a small change.

The Star Pacer Naveen-Ul-Haq is not mentioned in the T20i team for the Tri series, even though it is picked for the Asia Cup 2025 and has been replaced by Abdollah Ahmadzai, which is one of the Standbernooi.

In the meantime, Ibrahim Zadran will make a comeback to the Afghan T20i, which is playing XI for the first time since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Spinner am Ghazanfar also stands in line to make his T20i debut.

Rashid Khan will lead an Afghanistan National Cricket team that also consists of star players such as Rahmamullah Gurbaz, Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Nabi, Karim Janat and Azatullah Omarzai.

John Mooney mentioned the new new field coach, Nirmalan Thanabalasingam appointed the new physiotherapist

Recently the ACB mentioned former Ireland star John Moeney as the new field coach and the Australian Nirmalan Thanabalasingam as the new physiotherapist.

Afghanistan players are currently in Abu Dhabi and undergo a training and preparation camp. John Mooney and Nirmalan Thanabalasingam have also become members of the camp.

John Mooney is a former cricket player in Ireland who played 91 international matches and has level 3, 2 and 1 coaching certificates from ECB and worked with Afghanistan earlier from 2018 to 2019.

Speaking of Nirmalan Thanabalasingam, he worked with Desert Vipers (ILT20), Cricket NSW, Rangpur Riders (BPL), Montreal Tigers (GT20 – Canada), ICC World XI and Sydney Thunder (BBL).
