Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: NFL Week 2

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers scored 34 points in week 1: Their high-scoring attack produced two top loss-back-back-back Kenneth Gainwell and broad recipient Calvin Austin III.
  • A youth movement at the tight end: Rookies Harold Fannin Jr. And Mason Taylor played an important role in their NFL debut.

The first week of the NFL season 2025 is almost in the books and the fantasy landscape is already shifting. The distance statement of this week includes high-ups stashes, plug-and-play starters and a few falls you want to avoid.

From shallow competitions to deeper formats, these are the players who are worth your attention on their way to week 2.

Quarterbacks

Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta Falcons (roasted in 20.1% of the competitions at ESPN)

Michael Penix Jr. was one of my top sleeper Quarterbacks on the way to the season, and his week 1 version supported that. Although his rough figures of three start of the late season were modest, his underlying statistics told a different story. He earned an 87.6 passing figure, fed by an elite big-time throw and the lowest turnover-worthy playing speed in the competition. Under Quarterbacks with at least 100 fitting attempts, Penix led Lamar Jackson out and at the top of a large number of throw in a positive degree speed-lag Lamar Jackson.

In week 1, Penix threw 298 yards and a touchdown despite playing without one of his top two recipients. He also added value to the floor, hurried six times for 21 Yards and a go-ahead touchdown leaves in the game, good for one of the best fantasy outputs under Quarterbacks.

Although Penix is not an ideal streaming option for week 2, it pulls favorable matchups in weeks 3 and 4 against the Panthers and Commanders. His second half schedule is even better, making it a strong stock candidate in competitions with deeper banks.

Trevor LawrenceJacksonville Jaguars (39.6%)

Trevor Lawrence was one of my favorite Quarterback goals this design season, especially in two-QB or best-ball layouts, where the linking of cheap options for upward upward upward upward is placed on top of each other. He learns a new system under head coach Liam Coen, and there is reason to be optimistic. Coen’s 2023 attack helped Baker Mayfield to jump from a 72.8 to an 82.4 passing figure, with his fantasy production from 16.7 to 22.5 points per match. Lawrence is already running more than Mayfield, so the ceiling is even higher.

Under Doug Pederson, Lawrence’s time was to throw consistently low, while his average depth of target enriched and his efficiency hurt. For the past three years, he ranked in the soil quartile in deep accuracy, but was one of the best of the competition on short throws. Coen’s attack should lean on that power of short areas, creating a more stable fantasy floor.

Lawrence was only on average in week 1 and completed 19-of-31 passes for 178 Yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Panthers. But the gamecript played a role, while the Jaguars led everywhere and leaned on the flight. Week 2 brings a much better set -up against the Bengal, which last season gave up the sixth most fantasy points to Quarterbacks and simply allowed 290 passing yards to Joe Flacco.

If you stream this week, Lawrence is your best option, and it still has an advantage in the long term when the Jaguars start to click offensively.

Daniel JonesIndianapolis Colts (14.8%)

Jones was a top 10 fantasy quarterback in 2022, largely thanks to his hasty production. He reminded us of that in week 1. He ran for two touchdowns and added 272 yards and a score through the air, which completed 22 of 29 passes. His top goals were broad recipient Michael Pittman Jr. And tight end Tyler Warren, so he helped 29.5 fantasy points.

He is sitting against the Denver Broncos next week, but strong matchups in weeks 4 and 5 against the rams and Raiders make him a feasible streaming option.
