The preseason of Toronto Maple Leafs started today with an afternoon matinee against the senators of Ottawa. The Maple Leafs Iced a team that did not include many regular NHL players, but it was still a competitive line -up that gave the senators everything they can handle.
The game started with the Maple Leafs that opened the score for less than a minute with a Purpose of Calle Jarnkrok. Towards the end of the first they had a 3-0 lead and defeated a senator team that consisted of a large part of their opening night schedule. Ottawa made a comeback and closed the gap to a lead of one goal in the third period. However, they were short and the Maple Leafs won 4-3.
The Maple Leafs schedule consists of Bubble Players
The Maple Leafs icleed A selection that consisted of a handful of bubble players who insist on a place in the opening night schedule. Between the aforementioned Jarnkrok, David Kampf, Nicholas Robertson, Henry Thrun, Michael Pezzetta, and if you want to include Easton Cowan in that conversation, there are many names that can dress during the opening evening. The veterans such as Jarnkrok and Kampf played well and took many of the young people under their care. There is still a chance for them to earn a place on the Roster, but with all other additions this season outside of season it seems that their time could end with the organization.
Robertson, who, apart from Cowan, is perhaps the most interesting name to view this pre -season, had a typical ‘Robertson Start’. He found the back of the net In the first period and generally had a very good match. If he can continue to play so well, he will make the opening night schedule. As far as Pezzetta is concerned, it seems that he will be a depth that is worn by the team and comes in the line -up when head coach Craig Berube needs him. He played decent but missed a few opportunities to physically join himself.
Finally, Cowan, the one who had all the eyes on him had a good game and became physically involved, but he did not have the chances that Robertson had. He was engaged, but without really scoring opportunities, there were times when he was not noticeable. Yet it was only the first game of the preseason and he will have more opportunities.
Akhtyamov played excellent
Artur Akhtyamov played very well in his first action of the preseason. In the first period he was firm and made it to save him slide over the fold. He also showed great rebound control and fought for just about every puck he thought he had a chance. There was even a play in the game where the senators were busy and the puck was loose. Akhtyamov lost his glove but still fought to make the salvation. He ended his time in the net with two goals allowed on 20 shots.

This should not be a surprise for many Maple Leafs fans. Last season with the Toronto Marlies he played in 26 games and had a 11-8-4 record with a .901 savings percentage (SV%) and a 2.81 goals against average (GAA). It is not unreasonable to think that Akhtyamov de Future of the fold for the maple leaf.
What is the next step for the Maple Leafs?
The Maple Leafs will resume the action on Tuesday 23 September against the senators. That game could see more of an opposite setup. The Maple Leafs will have more of their regulars in the line -up, while the senators will probably give opportunities to their bubble players or Rookies before they make cuts.
The Toronto training camp will continue, with cuts at some point this week. Those cuts must consist of younger players who return to their respective Junior hockey teams, or are sent to the Marlies to participate in their training camp, which is just around the corner.
