ZOHO Payments, a subsidiary of SaaS giant Zoho, established in Chennai, has expanded his portfolio of solutions and is about to launch physical point of sale (POS) devices that make credit card transactions and QR codes-based payments possible, together with sound boxes.

Speak with business lineSivaramakrishnan Iswaran, CEO of ZOHO PAYMENT Technologies and Global Head of Finance and Operations BU, ZOHO, said that payments are a strategic area for the company and that ZOHO is planning to deepen his presence in the segment. “With the launch of Zoho Payments we have entered the huge fintech market, and within that we see a huge potential in payments. As the norm at ZOHO, we have made our entry with one small product and will now expand it from there,” he said.

Iswaran added that the company already has “several thousand” customers for its B2B payment options, which were launched last year. “With the launch of the hardware devices, we intend to increase our presence in the segment,” he added.

Zoho Pos devices currently imports, but it wants to change this scenario in the long term. “Nearly 100 percent of the POS devices are nowadays manufactured in China. We have millions of cash register systems in India and self-reliance is crucial. With the help of government initiatives, it is our goal to have a local ecosystem for these devices at some point,” he said.

With ZOHO Payments POS and QR devices, companies can accept personal card payments via tapping, dipping and swiping, as well as upi payments by scanning both static and dynamic QR codes. The cash register devices are equipped with built -in printing and barcode scanning. The QR devices are also supplied with a sound box.

The company is also launching a series of new payment solutions, including payment options to help companies that use ZOHO Payroll to pay salaries and automate the wage processing of employees. It also launches virtual accounts for collections, marketplace settlements and UPI Autopay for recurring payments.

These launches will take place as part of the Global Fintech Fest on Tuesday.

More than B2B payments

With regard to questions about lending, Iswaran pointed out that Zoho, unlike most FinTech players, who will provide credits under pressure from investors, is currently prioritizing R&D and innovation in the field of payments. Our strategy at the moment does not mean that we are going too far in lending, he added.

It is interesting that ZOHO already has a license for a Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC) through its subsidiary Zoho Finance Private Ltd. “The purpose of setting up the NBFC is not for pure business loans, but to play our role in rural development. We want to support rural entrepreneurs and offer them the opportunity to start and maintain their business,” he said.

He does not exclude the possibility that the company will offer B2C paying services: “We are not going to limit ourselves and will expand.”
