The former Nine-Holes course of Club turned into reversible golf course with two nine-hole loops that play in opposite directions
Zinkand Golf Design (ZGD) – Under the leadership of golf course architect David Zinkand and are more than 25 years of experience in designing, managing and forming projects in the field – has completed the reversible, a unique, new golf course in Medina Country Club in Ohio.
As the name suggests, the reversible two nine-hole loops that can be played in opposite directions contains one clockwise (purple) and the other against the clock in (green) and occupies the footprint of the former nine-hole course of the club. Each par-31 routing starts with a downhill par-3 to one of the two large double greens. They are followed by a fascinating collection of par 3s and 4s draped over softly rolling terrain before they return to par 3s with double greens for the finish.

The reversible challenges experience players with strategic bunkering and multiple routes to hole locations, which demand careful decisions of both the T -shirt and approaching the green. At the same time, the wide width offers sufficient space for less experienced golfers to free up the problems. Other course functions are generous green environment and robust bunkering with attractive Fescue -Wenkbrauwen. Pure Eclipse Bentgrass Greens and Fairways, combined with an emphasis on maximizing the flexibility of the course set-up during the design / construction process, will determine the basic line for exceptional conditioning and to play for thinking. The work of Zinkand also emphasized the golf course that looks and felt like the rural environment. This principle of ‘ingenious loci’ or place feeling is an important pillar of his design philosophy.
“The country has just enough exercise to make the ideal for reversible wave,” said Zinkand, an old employee of Coore & Crenshaw before he started his own design company. “It enabled us to be courageous and offers many challenges for players who would like to embrace risks in pursuing a large reward, while also having subtlety that invites beginners to identify more conservative ways on the gap.”

Work on the reversible started in the summer of 2024, with the majority of the groundwork completed by autumn. It is part of a multi-phase master plan in Medina, which is about 35 miles south of the center of Cleveland. The opening of the reversible follows a complete overhaul of the club’s practice facilities, including the addition of an ultramodern indoor / outdoor education academy. The construction of a new clubhouse is underway; Once completed, attention will focus on a project that will transform the existing 18-hole course from Medina.
“Working with Dave is a pleasure, and he is such a genius in what he does,” said Bill Cosgrove, the owner of Medina Country Club since 2022. “His vision of the reversible grasp me right from the beginning and our members can no longer be enthusiastic about the golf course.
