Zeekr has launched a crowdfunding campaign in China to upgrade the driver assistance hardware and software systems on older 001 and 009 models, specifically those sold before the 2024 model year.
As reported by Autohomethe company announced the campaign on its official website Weibo page invites customers seeking the upgrade to sign up from November 24 to December 24 of this year. According to the report, the subsidized upgrade package for the 001 costs 13,500 yuan (approximately RM7.9k), while it is 18,500 yuan (RM11k) for the 009.
Without voucher subsidies, the packages cost 33,500 and 38,500 yuan (RM19k and RM22k) respectively. The company is targeting at least 3,000 participants for the 001 upgrade, while 1,500 participants for the 009 will take the campaign to the next phase.
During the campaign, the Mobileye EyeQ5H system that can perform 48 TOPS (tera operations per second) in these older cars will be replaced by Zeekr’s proprietary G-Pilot H7 system, which is built on Nvidia’s Drive Thor-U architecture to deliver up to 700 TOPS of computing power. Upgrading to the newer H7 requires replacing chips, rewiring harnesses, and redesigning system implementations. The 001 is said to require replacing nearly 60 individual parts, with the job taking more than 20 hours.
After the upgrade, more ADAS features will be available to customers, including the Zeekr Pilot (NZP) high-speed autonomous pilot assistance system, Hone Zone Park Assist (HPA) and the General Automated Evasion System (G-AES) emergency steering assistance. Development costs and some hardware costs will be borne by Zeekr, with the company reportedly spending 200 million yuan (RM116 million) to develop and validate the retrofit upgrade.
