BMW and Harley-Davidson have always had the first in providing capable police engine bikes. In fact, the increased red-and-white civilian wakes have received a decent fan. But Harley fans would be shocked because BMW has just taken a deal of several millions of dollars from the Dutch government. No other police engine bike could meet their requirements; Not even Harley! The criteria were all about performance, and this six -cylinder BMW shines clearly in that aspect. So much so that even the completely new and refined BMW R 1300 GT-based police bike did not stand a chance.

The Dutch government replaces its trusted Yamahas with BMW cycles
The long-term Yamaha FJR1300 political bikes are being replaced by the BMW K 1600 GTS performed
The Royal Dutch Marechaussee-the Dutch Military Police has replaced its fleet from Yamaha FJR1300’s with brand new, tailor-made BMW K 1600 GT political bikes. The reason for dumping the FJRs was due to their stopping in Europe long ago and their lack of compliance with the latest pollution standards. The military police have a secret series of criteria that these police bikes have to adhere to. Not much is known about the parameters.
Even their test job is a secret affair. However, we now know that even the lighter and More Bleeding-Edge BMW R 1300 RT-PS I did not endure it. BMW was also a no-frills choice for the Ministry of Defense, and interesting enough, the purchasing officers had already announced in advance that only BMW could deliver the right bikes. Here is an excerpt from the program of requirements for the new Dutch police bicycles, as quoted by News Motor Netherlands”
The maximum working weight of the motorcycle, fully equipped, is a very large 472 kg (1040.5 pounds). It must accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.5 seconds and be able to reach and retain a speed of 220 km/h (136.7 mph). The motorcycle must show stable handling over the entire speed range. There may be no wobbling (fast 4-10 HZ oscillation) or tissue (slow 0-4 HZ oscillation) that can be checked by a well-trained, Royal Dutch Marechaussee (KMar) rider, but this also applies to less experienced drivers. Moreover, during normal use, no parts other than the tires may hit the ground (ground freedom), and the motorcycle must be both very maneuverable and stable.
This is why the BMW K 1600 GT was chosen
These new bicycles will be used for escort tasks and vehicle checks. Given the demand for high top speeds and substantial acceleration, the choice of K 1600 GTs over the newer but smaller R 1300S makes sense. It is powered by a unique 1,649 cc inline-6 engine that produces 160 hp and 133 pound-foot torque. The performance rises early with the power with a peak at 6,750 rpm and torque at 5,250 rpm.
This process is in line with the needs of the government to their police bikes to match immediate gear and top speeds when escorting powerful sedans. Also, given the Stanced Design, the low center of gravity will help to keep these police bikes stable through fast corners. Although it is on the high side with a sidewalk weight of 756.2 pounds, the BMW K 1600 GT still impresses a top speed of more than 120 mph.

The police bicycles undergo a whole series of changes, including visual and acoustic signaling systems, extra switches and indicators, standard storage solutions, a radio and the characteristic white, blue and red color scheme. All these adjustments are made by a Dutch company, HSC, in Nieuw-Vennep. Although there is no mention of performance -upgrades, we suspect that BMW will adjust the engine to attach to the state of the Netherlands to “maintain a speed of 220 km/h (136.7 mph)”. A total of 335 BMW K 1600 GT-P Police bikes are expected to be purchased by 2030With the first batch of 30 bicycles that were already delivered in the summer of 2025. The total costs of this deal between the Dutch government and BMW is no less than € 16.5 million (~ $ 19 million).
