Everything we know about the shooting at the NFL headquarters in New York

4 minutes, 18 seconds Read

Four people were killed on Monday evening in New York City in an apparent attack on the NFL headquarters in Midtown Manhattan. The shooter, identified as the 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, entered the building with a gun, killing four people before he brought the elevator to the offices of the NFL and continued the fire before he died of a self-laid shot wound.

Allegedly, an NFL employee was injured in the shooting and would have been admitted to the hospital in a stable condition after maintaining a shot wound at the back. In the meantime, the police and the search for answers when the investigation into Tamura’s attack is underway. This is still a developing story and more information is expected to release, but this is what we know so far.

Warning: The following contains information about the shooting that can be disturbing for some readers.

What do we know about the shooting?

Shortly before 6.30 pm local time, Tamura walked into the 345 Park Ave lobby, a 44-storey skyscraper in Midtown that houses countless companies, including the NFL League offices. Security camera images show the man who wears an AR-15 rifle, for which he had a permit in the state of Nevada.

When entering the building, Tamura shot down and killed 36-year-old Didarul IslamAn Off-Duty NYPD officer who worked as security in the building, as many police officers do. Islam had been in battle for 3.5 years after emigration from Bangladesh. Three other people were also shot and killed in the lobby. Their identities have not yet been released by the police.

Tamura then took the elevator to the 33rd floor, where NFL League offices are located. He reportedly opened fire before he took his own life. It was confirmed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell than an NFL employee was injured in the shooting, but is in a “stable state” in the area of the area.

Who is Shane Tamura?

Little is known about the shooter outside of information that has been combined by amateurs. It is generally believed that Tamura was a former high school football player in Granada Hills, California, who last played in 2016.

A page on max preps with the same name shows Tamura as a running and defensive back for Granada Hills Charter. He did not receive university offers, and although there are some reports that Tamara was going to play in the CFL, there is no evidence that this was the case. Neither CFL team grilles of the past eight years, nor statistics websites show that he played professional football in Canada.

Processing enforcement in Las Vegas confirmed that Tamura had a history of mental health problems. In both 2022 and 2024 he was placed at 72 hours of involuntary mental health care, which can be legally enforced by law enforcement and/or medical professionals when it is to ensure that a person can harm himself or others.

What was Tamura’s motive for the shooting?

Police investigation is still ongoing, although it is not mentioned on a large scale that a note was found on the body of the man who claimed that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). This is a brain disease that is much linked to repeated concussion.

Tamura’s note would blame the NFL for his alleged disease, although there is no confirmation that he was suffering from CTE. Diagnosis can only be made, and it is too early to know whether the man’s brain will be studied to determine whether he actually suffered from the disease.

What do civil servants say?

Details about the shooting are varying and largely fall within the realm of bad or absurd information. Mayor Eric Adams of New York City claimed that Tamura was’ almost two decades ago ‘a football player in high school,’ was’ almost two decades ago ‘, Although this did not match a timeline from Tamura. Moreover, Adams said that the shooter ‘took the wrong lift’, although this does not match information about an NFL employee who is injured in the shooting.

The consistent faith of the NYPD, the office of the mayor and city officials is that the NFL head office was indeed the target of the attack. It is said that the note asked Tamura in possession that his brain would be studied after his death, which would be possible, given that he died of a self -inflicted shot wound.

What remains unclear are the details that Tamura led to travel Cross-County to New York City. More specifically, how a man with two mental health applies in the past three years, and he was considered a threat to himself or others, still managed to have a legal firearm license in Nevada. It is also unclear the nature of these episodes in the past, which include the nature of its clearance, and whether or not there was a demolition in the system that could cause him to fall through the cracks, instead of getting the needy help. Finally, and perhaps the most interesting, is whether he does indeed suffer from CTE.

This is an ongoing study with more information to appear. We will update this story as information is made available.
