Yoane Wissa positive Saturday update and looks good for the game against Burnley

Things look positive for Yoane Wissa

On Friday, Eddie Howe had this to say about the DR Congo striker.

“We’re getting closer.

“We played an 11v11 game on Wednesday, a little bit for him, which was good and more minutes for him. For about half an hour, he did well.”

‘He’s been through everything so far.

“We still have training today and we will decide whether he is ready to not only be fit, but fit to make a difference and be fit to perform to his high standards.”

Now, ahead of Saturday’s game against Burnley, it appears that Eddie Howe has been able to make a positive decision on the striker.

Yoane Wissa is one of the Newcastle United players seen walking along the pitch to the dressing room before the match, which is normally only the case for those who will feature in the matchday squad.

On Monday we heard that DR Congo had agreed not to select the striker for AFCON (African Cup Of Nations).

This meant it wouldn’t be a case of Newcastle United finally getting Yoane Wissa fit and then losing him for up to five weeks in December and January.

Monday’s revelation was that after discussions with both Newcastle and Congo manager Sebastian Desabre, all parties agreed it was better to focus on Newcastle as Wissa has not played for six months.

The World Cup is much more important for DR Congo and with them needing to win just one more match in March to qualify for the 2026 finals in Mexico, Canada and the US, having Yoane Wissa fully fit and ready through continued club form is certainly a much bigger priority.

This will be a huge boost for Eddie Howe and the playing squad, if Yoane Wissa can now contribute to such an important part of the season, with so many important games in quick succession.

As of today, there are a total of five games in a few weeks: Burnley on December 6 and Chelsea on December 20, with three more big games in between.

Burnley (H) December 6, Bayer Leverkusen (A) December 10, Sunderland (A) December 14, Fulham (H) December 17, Chelsea (H) December 20, Man U December 26.
