Want to know who’s still using X and what they talk about most in the app?
Note: It’s not politics, despite how it seems to get most of the attention these days.
X has published an overview of the most important trends from 2026including data on the most talked about musicians, TV shows, sports leagues and more, providing additional insight into who uses X and why.
And while Elon Musk has tried that make sure as many people as possible see his messages in the appand has used his massive presence to push his own political agenda, many, many other discussions continue to take place via X-posts.
Firstly about the music, about which there is still a lot of discussion in the app. In 2025, Justin Bieber (11.2 million posts), Stray Kids (45.7 million) and Cardi B (10.1 million) were at the forefront of the music discussion.

Although the discrepancy here is huge, with K-pop band Stray Kids leading the way. That in itself provides an interesting insight into the extent of K-pop’s popularity and international audience on X.
In terms of TV shows, Netflix was the big winner this year, with ‘Stranger Things’ generating 12.4 mentions on the app and ‘Squid Game’ racking up 10.9 million mentions.

The Stranger Things talk will also undoubtedly get a big boost before the year is out, when the show’s final episodes are released.
In sports, the Premier League was the most mentioned individual sporting competition, with 582.7 million messages related to the top football competition.

Sports is traditionally the most talked about topic in the app, while other sports leagues, including the NBA, also drive a lot of engagement.
In fashion, the Met Gala, where rich people can show the absurdity of what they spend their money on, also sparked a lot of discussion.

So, cool, I guess.
X also shared the most used emojis in messages:

If you’re interested in the use of emojis, or you want to try to figure out what the higher application of these specific icons in messages actually means within the historical context (note: I don’t think it means much).
Some interesting insights into the year it was on
For example, last year sports-related discussions generated 1.4 trillion impressions on the app. As such, Premier League involvement is just a fraction of the whole, which also underlines the breadth of activity on the app as more than 500 million users engage with a range of topics.
But as a high-level overview, this is what got people talking about X, and what’s driving interest in the X community.
In connection with this, X also did so has relaunched Global Trends in the Explore sectionso you can see which posts are causing discussion at any given time.
