Note: On Friday morning, X limited Grok image creation to paying users only.
We need one of those “__days without incident” signs for
As has been widely reported, X is currently under scrutiny in several regions because xAI’s Grok chatbot produces sexualized images of anyone, young or old, at the request of X users.
However, the fact that Grok image generation is so readily available within the X Composer has exacerbated the problem, as reported by Wiredit’s actually much worse on the dedicated Grok app, where thousands of non-consensual nudes are generated every day.
According to indeed research commissioned by Bloombergat one point early in the new year, Grok was producing more than 6,700 images per hour that would be categorized as “sexually suggestive of nudification.”
Elon Musk has acknowledged the problem, but has not done so until now put the responsibility back on the userssaying that any illegal content produced by Grok is the responsibility of the requesting user, and those who do so will be dealt with.
But that doesn’t really address the concern, and now X could face a full ban in several markets.
So far:
- The Indian IT industry has that X has given an official order to take “corrective action” to address Grok’s concerns about image generation “obscene, pornographic, vulgar, indecent, sexually explicit, pedophilic or otherwise prohibited by law” material
- Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Committee issued a public statement urge X to ensure that its AI tools comply with local law
- The Indonesian Ministry of Communications has done so threatened to ban X and Grok if the problems with ‘degrading images of women and children’ are not addressed
- The French authorities have done so announced an official investigation in sexually explicit deepfakes on X
- The British Ofcom has done that has submitted a request to X to outline the steps it is taking “to meet their legal duties to protect users in the UK”
All of this could lead to a complete ban on X in every region, while some are also questioning that why Google and Apple continue to host X in their app storesdespite banning other nudify apps.
In Great Britain specifically, Prime Minister Kier Starmer has noticed this “All options are on the table” in addressing concerns about X’s latest controversy, including a complete ban on the app if no resolution is provided.
The threat of comprehensive action is very real, and with
This is almost becoming a regular occurrence, with TikTok also still at the center of a foreign trade standoff between China and the US.
Elon Musk’s connections with the US government also complicate matters here. The last time the European Commission fined X (for transparency violations and misleading verification indicators in the app), Elon called on the US government for support in opposing the fine.
And he got it. US Vice President J.D. Vance And Secretary of State Marco Rubio both criticized the punishment, calling it “an attack on all American technology platforms and the American people by foreign governments.”
However, the White House has not taken the next step, which would involve trade sanctions in response, but US President Donald Trump has expressed support for measures that address any perceived inequality in foreign markets, including fines on social media platforms.
With that in mind, and as the US looks to reassert its foreign policy power, Elon Musk could again appeal to the White House, if X is actually banned in any region, and force the issue, leading to greater ramifications for trade and diplomacy.
It still seems so strange that the bird app, which made “tweeting” synonymous with short messages, could be crucial to international political stability. But this is where we find ourselves in 2026, with the rampant horniness of X users setting us on a path to conflict.
Good times.
The expectation is that
We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out, but perhaps X could be ruled out again due to Elon’s views.
