Considering the latest revelations about xAI’s Grok mass producing illegal contentsometimes of minors, this feels like an up-to-date overview.

The Future of Life Institute team recently a safety investigation was carried out from some of the most popular AI tools on the market, including Meta AI, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Grok and more.

The judgement looked at six important elements:

  • Risk Assessment – Attempts to ensure that the device cannot be tampered with or used for harm
  • Current Damage – Includes data security and digital watermarking risks
  • Security Frameworks – The process each platform has for identifying and addressing risks
  • Existential safety – Whether the project is monitored for unexpected developments in the programming
  • Governance – The company’s lobby on AI governance and AI safety regulations
  • Information sharing – System transparency and insight into how it works

Based on these six elements, the report then gave each AI project an overall safety score, which reflects a broader assessment of how each project manages development risks.

The team of Visually capitalist have translated these results into the infographic below, which provides some additional food for thought about the development of AI, and where we can go next (especially as the White House looks to remove potential barriers to AI development).
