Wyndham Clark finally broke his silence after destroying his locker at Oakmont Country Club and received a ban from the track.

Clark lost his patience on June 16 at the US Open of this year and destroyed two vault gates – which resulted in Oakmont CC president John Lynch who forbade the American from the building.

More than a month later, Clark apologized for his actions – and revealed that his future in Oakmont is unclear.

“That’s up to them,” Clark told reporters on Sunday from the Open ESPN. “I really don’t know. I hope so. It is a fantastic course and place, but that is up to them.

‘I did something terrible, and I am really sorry for it. Hopefully they have it in their hearts to forgive me, and maybe I can play there in the future. ‘

In a letter sent to the members of the club, Lynch said that the prohibition could be lifted if Clark pays for the damage, makes a ‘meaningful contribution’ to a good cause of Oakmont’s choice, and undergoes counseling and/or anger conservation therapy.

While Clark called it a ‘no-brainer’ to pay for the damage, he seemed to be surprised that his violations were made public.

“We hoped it would be private,” he said. “I’ll just leave it at that.”

Oakmont no longer host the US until 2033, when Clark will be 40 years old.

He won the event in 2023 and gave him an exemption of 10 years in the competition.

This year he missed the cut after the bogey of the last hole of round two.

Clark, who also had an anger incident at the PGA championship in May, became the mental struggles he has worked to improve over the past two years.

“I have been pretty open about my mental shift and change to get better, and I did that in ’23 and ’24, and then I have a difficult year and all expectations and just frustration together, and I did two stupid things,” he said. ‘But one thing it did is wake me up and bring myself back to the person I know I am and the person I want to be.

“I hope that those things don’t reflect because I don’t think they think about who I am, and that things are going in the future will not happen anymore.”

During the PGA championship in the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, Clark let his frustration over the 16th hole off the track during the second round by hitting his driver backwards – destroying a billboard.

After that incident, he said that his actions were “not called”, and that it was “clear that I have things that I have to work on.

‘I am sticking to a high standard, always try to play for something bigger than myself, and yesterday I did not notice those standards.

Clark’s Mea Culpa On Sunday came to Portrush after a strong finish, while he fourth in the tournament with a final round of six below.
