The Emma Raducanu campaign on the Dongfeng Voyah Wuhan Open, the last WTA 1000 of the season, was short -lived as the British NR.

I’m glad I didn’t play yesterday, because I think it was too much for most players. At the Middle Court I think it is a bit cooler with the air conditioning and everything, but I hope that the other competitions will be planned at a time when girls can compete, instead of simply dying on the field. Iga Swiatek

Raducanu seemed slow from the start of her 1st round match against America’s Ann Li, and was 6-1, 4-1 when she decided to retire after a medical time-out, because during the second set she looked dizzy on points.

The British No. 1 is the newest player who in recent weeks during the Swiatek, a 6-way Grand SLAM champion from Swiateek, retires or retired from a tournament.

“I feel that over the years it will be hotter in different places,” Swiatek said on the field after her game. “I just try to use my experience, recover well between the points and just spend all my energy having the best possible quality. But it is certainly a challenge.”

High temperatures above 30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) forced organizers to put the heat rule into operation on Monday, when the game was suspended on the outdoor dishes.

The heat rule also came into force on Tuesday between 12.30 and 17.30, but no competitions were suspended.

“I’m glad I didn’t play yesterday, because I think it was too much for most players,” Swiatek added. “In the middle of the court I find it a bit cooler with the air conditioning and everything, but I hope that the other games are planned at a time when girls can compete, rather than just dying on the field.”

Raducanu, the 2021 US Open Champion, received medical attention 5 matches in the second set when she had checked her blood pressure and other vitals, clearly struggling with the conditions while the temperature rose.

She called to retire because of dizziness and sent Li to a 2nd round meeting with 9th Ekaterina Alexandrova from Russia.

De Heat Rule enables players to take a 10 -minute break between the second and third sets, and means that the tournament can partially or fully close the Centrum Court Roof to protect players.

Raducanu had started itself quickly by breaking Li in the opening match, but lost the next 6 and the first set in just 28 minutes.

Li just overwhelmed no. 30 with a large ball, because Raducanu increasingly made non-forced mistakes and was clearly not completely fit.

Raducanu produced 4 double errors at the start of the second set, bend down and indicated that she could retire, but in one way or another managed to keep her serve.

However, Li won 4 consecutive games, before Raducanu called on the trainer, who took her blood pressure and temperature, and then soon shook the hand with Li.

“I want to wish Emma a quick recovery. It seems that she wasn’t feeling well,” Li said afterwards on the field. “It was a tough match last time, so hopefully she feels better. I am happy with my performance, I remained pretty solid for the entire game.”

The British No. 1 still hopes to end the season strongly by staying in the top 32 in the ranking to ensure that it is sown on the Australian Open from January, but it is not clear whether she will compete later this month in the other China events.
