12.35 pm: Tom Jarvis raised hopes of a defeat against Japan’s Hiroto Shinozuka when he won the first game 11-9, but his opponent came back and ruthlessly crushed Tom’s hopes by winning the next three games (11-5, 11-2, 11-8).
There was a glimmer of hope when Tom (WR 79) led the fourth 6-4, 7-6, but a run of four points gave the world number 31 three match points, and he took the second to advance to the last 16.
11:50 PM: Paul Drinkhall & Anna Hursey are through to the SEMI-FINAL of the Mixed!! The GB pair defeated Sweden’s Kristian Karlsson and Christina Kallberg 11-7 in the fifth in their quarter-final.
It was a close match as Paul and Anna won the first game 12-10 on their second game point, but were then put back when the Swedes saved two game points by winning the second 13-11 – and then went further as they took the third 11-9.
Paul & Anna were never behind in the fourth, although they were back at 9-9 before taking the score at 11-9.
The fifth only saw them fall behind after the first point, although it was up to both pairs to win 7-7 – but four straight points for the British pair took them into the last four, where they faced second seeds Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem of Hong Kong.
