WPL 2026 schedule announcement: dates and locations revealed
BCCI unveils schedule ahead of WPL 2026 mega auction
On Thursday, November 27, the BCCI officially confirmed the fixtures for the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the mega auction event in New Delhi. Representatives from all five franchises were present when the announcement was made ahead of the bidding process for the 2026 season. So let’s take a look at the WPL 2026 schedule announcement.
According to the BCCI, WPL 2026 will be held from January 9 to February 5, marking a shift from the usual February to March window.
Two locations finalized for WPL 2026 season
For the upcoming edition, the tournament will be held at two locations: Navi Mumbai and Vadodara. The decision to limit the competition to these venues comes in light of the venue requirements for the 2026 T20 Men’s World Cup.
Opening match (January 9): BCA Stadium, Vadodara
Final (February 5): DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai
The WPL released an official statement noting the location change:
“The #TATAWPL 2026 will be held from January 9 to February 5 in Navi Mumbai and Vadodara. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will be the opener. BCA Stadium in Vadodara will host the final.”
Why WPL 2026 has a new window
Traditionally, the WPL covers the period February-March. However, with the Men’s T20 World Cup set to start in India in early February 2026, the women’s competition has been moved forward by a month.
As major stadiums across India will be reserved for the FIFA World Cup, the BCCI has chosen Navi Mumbai and Vadodara as the most feasible and available options for WPL 2026.
Highlights from the mega auction event
The mega auction event witnessed a strong presence of influential figures from women’s cricket, including Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who took part in the ceremony when league officials announced the dates.
A total roster reshuffle is expected as franchises look to strengthen their fourth season lineups with strategic choices.
Most successful WPL teams to date
As the league enters its fourth year, Mumbai Indians remain the most decorated franchise with two titles, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted their first trophy in the 2025 season.
With the tournament window now shifted and new venues hosting the action, WPL 2026 is expected to deliver another exciting and competitive season for fans around the world.
