South African women won the tenth match of the 2025 Women’s World Cup against India Women with three wickets and seven balls to spare at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The South Africans extended their winning streak against India in the 50-over World Cup to 3-0 with this victory.
After getting started, India got off to a pretty good start in their powerplay. They added 55 to the score within 10 overs. Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up a couple of wickets in the form of Smriti Mandhana (23 off 32) and Harleen Deol (13 off 23). Pratika Rawal also left for 37 after he was killed by Tumi Sekhukhune’s crazy delivery. Chloe Tryon dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues for her second duck in three games.
India were five down with 100 on the board when Deepti Sharma was strangled in the next over, putting India in further trouble. It was all about Richa Ghosh from that point on. She played incredibly well for her 77-ball 94-run knock. Tryon was the bowlers’ favorite, taking three wickets while conceding just 32 runs in her 10-over quota. Richa’s fierce knock consisted of eleven fours and four sixes.
The visitors’ start was relatively more subdued than their opposition. Two of their highest scorers from South Africa’s previous match had been dismissed. After Anneke Bosch (1 of 2) was dismissed, Sinalo Jafta remained at the crease for a while to support skipper Laura Wolvaardt. However, Jafta was locked up front by hometown hero Shree Charani, leaving the Proteas five down.
Nadine is going crazy
A pair of 60-run stands from Tryon with skipper Wolvaardt (70 off 111) and then with Nadine de Klerk brought South Africa back into the game. The Proteas vice-captain fell one point short of her half-century. However, her side still had a job to do with 41 required in 24. De Klerk not only registered her highest ODI score (84* off 54) but also registered their first win against India after five consecutive defeats in ODIs.
With this, the Women in Blue recorded their first defeat of the home tournament, while the South African team managed to achieve their second consecutive victory. However, India still has an edge over the South Africans ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 points tablethanks to a superior net run rate (NRR).
