His best moments came abroad, especially in Australia, where his contributions helped India to achieve historic back-to-back, including the unforgettable Triumph 2018–19, where he was named player of the series.

Furthermore, he even switched Rahul Dravid’s legacy to the number 3 position. After his pension announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Pujara sent a personal letter. Pujara shared the letter on his social media account.

Best Cheteshwar,

I learned about your decision to retire from all forms of cricket. After the announcement there is an outpouring of valuation of the fans and the cricket brotherhood about your remarkable performance. I transfer my hearts congratulations and warmest greetings about a spectacular cricket career.

In an era dominated by shorter cricket formats, you were a reminder of the beauty of the longer format of the game. Your inexplicable temperament and the ability to spend long hours with a large concentration made you the support point of the Indian Batting line-up.

Your excellent cricket career is strewn with moments of remarkable skills and solution, especially in challenging circumstances abroad. For example, fans will always remember authorities such as the tests in Australia, when you laid the foundation for the historic very first series of India on Australian soil! Standing for a long time against one of the most powerful bowling attacks, you showed what it meant to bear the responsibility for the team.

There have been many series victories, centuries, double centuries and awards in your career. But no figures can record the feeling of calmness that your presence gave fans and teammates that the fate of the team was in safe hands. This is really your lasting legacy that goes beyond merely figures.

Your passion for the game was also reflected in the fact that even if you were an international cricket player, you made a point to play first -class cricket, whether it was for Saurashtra or abroad. Your long association with Saurashtra Cricket and your contribution to placing Rajkot on the cricket card remains a source of immense pride for every young person in the region.

I am sure that your father, a cricket player himself and your mentor, is proud of you. Puja and Aditi must be delighted to spend more time with you. They have all made large sacrifices to support you on the road.

Beyond the field, your in-depth analysis will continue to add great value to cricket enthusiasts, who look forward to hearing your insights. I am convinced that you will keep yourself associated with the game and inspire budeters.

Best wishes for your trip ahead.

Warm greetings,

Yours,

(Narendra Modi)
