Wolves star Joao Gomes wants a move from Man Utd

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes wants a move to Manchester United next year, according to the Brazilian outlet Urubu Gazette.

The Brazil international is a mainstay in the heart of midfield for the Midlands side and has his sights set on a bigger challenge in the near future.

Urubu Gazette claim the 24-year-old ‘wants’ a move to the Red Devils and believes the Mancunian giants will represent a ‘big’ step up in his playing career.

However, despite the speculation, Man United are yet to open talks with Wolves. They are only monitoring him at the moment and his club has not been contacted.

United are eyeing two solutions in the middle of the park, and it remains to be seen whether the hierarchy formalize their interest in Gomes in January or at the end of the season.

Experience

The Red Devils are eyeing Nottingham Forest player Elliot Anderson number one target to strengthen the defensive midfield department ahead of the 2026/27 season.

However, the club may want another competitor in addition to the Englishman. Casemiro’s current contract expires in June next year and he could leave on a free transfer.

Manuel Ugarte has been on the bench for most of the competition and manager Ruben Amorim recently said he needs to improve his training to earn more minutes.

There is a possibility that Casemiro and Ugarte will head for the exit door in the summer. Gomes would be a good addition to the Red Devils given his competitive experience.

The Brazilian won 5.7 matches per league match for Wolves this campaign. He has also made 4.7 recoveries and 2.6 tackles per appearance, in addition to 1.7 appearances for his club.

He has a passing accuracy of 85 percent, despite Wolves being under constant pressure from the opposition. Gomes could be signed next year for a relatively affordable price.

Wolves are 9 points behind 17th-placed West Ham United, and the gap could widen further ahead of the new year.

The Red Devils could respond to this by convincing Gomes to join as early as January. The £35 million The star may think he has better chances of making Brazil’s World Cup squad with United.

Gomes was an unused substitute during October’s international break with Brazil, and was not even included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the recent friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia.
