Wolves introduce themselves as new Premier League manager with ‘interesting’ recent record

Six days after the sacking of Vitor Pereira, Premier League club Wolves have secured a new manager.

Middlesbrough release an official statement (see below) saying Rob Edwards is on his way to Molineux.

Boro are clearly unhappy that after just 14 Championship games in charge, Edwards has made it clear he is determined to join Wolves.

In the crazy world of Premier League managers, Wolves appoint someone who ‘mutually’ decided with the club to leave Luton in January (2025), when he was 20th in the Championship and sank like a stone towards League One.

Middlesbrough then gave Rob Edwards a decent level job, despite what had happened with Luton, and after just fifteen league games, with just two wins in the most recent eight Championship games, Edwards was now given a Premier League post.

To cap it all, Rob Edwards quit while arranging his Wolves appointment, while in his absence Middlesbrough enjoyed a huge home win over Birmingham, who went on to take second place.

How ironic if Middlesbrough were to replace Wolves in the Premier League at the end of the season…

Middlesbrough official statement – November 8, 2025:

‘Middlesbrough Football Club, subject to the completion of an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, has given head coach Rob Edwards permission to speak to Wolves.
We initially rejected an approach from Wolves on the grounds that Rob signed a three-year contract with MFC less than six months ago.

After discussions with Rob we were disappointed to hear that he wanted to speak to Wolves about their head coach vacancy. We have now agreed terms with Wolves, subject to the relevant paperwork being completed.

First-team coaches Adi Viveash and Harry Watling, and Academy manager Craig Liddle, will be in charge of team affairs for Saturday’s match against Birmingham City at the Riverside.’
