Newcastle United’s young stars are now looking to chase Manchester City after an incredible turnaround

Newcastle United’s young stars are now looking to join Manchester City.

A third win in a row for Newcastle United under 18s on Saturday.

Today at Burnley, goals late in the first half from Kacey Wooster and Matty Taylor put United in control.

Burnley halved the deficit in the second half, but Alfie Seldon then made it a 3-1 win for the young Newcastle United stars.

Great to see that investments in recruitment, facilities and coaching are paying off.

Unlike what we have seen under Mike Ashley where the owner, like every other part of the club, refused to allow any money to be spent on the Academy unless forced to do so.

This led to the Newcastle United Under 18s regularly finishing in the bottom teams of the youth league season after season.

Today’s result sees the Newcastle United Under 18s position as follows on Saturday evening (8 November 2025), with the Under 18s competition split into North and South:

As you can see, United are above Liverpool and Man U, only Manchester City above.

This was always going to be a very long and ongoing process, BUT undeniable progress under these Newcastle United owners and their staff, with the massive turnaround required.

Patience must be shown and there must increasingly be a massive shake-up and upgrade for the Academy, essential investments to repair the damage of more than fourteen years of Mike Ashley.

This can’t be solved overnight, especially when you’re talking about bringing in kids/young players. It is a situation where you do the right things and investments and from which you may reap the benefits in the years to come.

There is still a long way to go, but if you make the essential progressive investments in facilities and coaching, the prospects can look better every season as what happens now can produce the stars of the future.

In recent days we saw confirmation that Newcastle United had signed exciting 15-year-old central defensive candidate Josh Kenchington from Barnsley. Dubbed the ‘new John Stones’, United battled off competition from a host of Premier League clubs, including Spurs and Man U. Newcastle reportedly paid £375,000 for the 15-year-old, with a promise that much more money would be paid out if/when he meets certain targets.

Great to see that both the short and long term are now taken care of, while previously neither was a priority at Newcastle United for Mike Ashley.
